Department Summary
The Chemical and Materials Engineering Department at SJSU offers two ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering degrees and two Master of Science in Chemical Engineering and Master of Science in Materials Engineering degrees. Hands-on, project-based curricula and state-of-the-art pedagogy provide preparation for professional opportunities in fields like green energy, biotechnology, and more. The Department has approximately 400 undergraduate and 70 graduate students.
Brief Description of Duties
Lecturers are expected to teach using student-centered pedagogies; collaborate on assessments; maintain office hours; and cooperate with the Department for peer-reviews. Demonstrate awareness of diverse student populations through inclusive materials and strategies. All classes must be organized in the Canvas LMS and meet as scheduled.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering or related field is required for lower division courses.
- A Master’s degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering or related field is required for upper division and graduate courses.
- Knowledge of the subject matter demonstrated through professional experience and/or a Ph.D. or Sc.D.
- Evidence of satisfactory academic achievement and commitment to teaching.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated awareness of multicultural educational goals.
Compensation
Compensation ranges: L-A: $5507 - $5959; L-B: $6221 - $7481; L-C: $6825 - $9431; L-D: $8593 - $10347 (monthly rates for full-time AY faculty; part-time prorated).
