Compensation and Benefits Administrator
Position Summary
The Compensation and Benefits Manager coordinates and manages the employee compensation and benefits programs. Responsible for directing and planning day-to-day operations of group benefit programs, including group health, dental, vision, long-term disability, life insurance, FSA & HSA administration and retirement plans. This position provides excellent customer service and designs quality benefit plans. The administrator continually investigates new benefit programs, improves existing programs, and monitors benefit administration. Must be able to support and promote the University's Mission, values, and customer service standards.
Essential Functions
- Administers university insurance programs including life, disability, and health insurance plans.
- Administers university 403(b) plan.
- Advises and informs colleagues of changes and developments related to benefits including eligibility, coverage, and provisions. Develops and executes an annual plan of benefit education and promotion to the colleagues of the university.
- Manage annual open enrollment and benefit transactions during the year.
- Gathers employee data and oversees the processing of monthly billing and the preparation of vouchers for payment of administrative fees for all group plans.
- Assess the effectiveness of the Benefit package and make improvements to ensure close alignment with the university's philosophy.
- Manages the entire compensation system which includes administering salary increase processes, salary benchmarking, grading positions, management of promotions, administering compensation policies and practices, and working with the university Compensation Committee.
- Assess the effectiveness of the compensation system and make recommendations for improvements needed in alignment with the university's compensation philosophy.
- Serves as university liaison to benefit vendors and manages their service and effectiveness.
- Ensures benefit and compensation compliance with applicable federal, state, and provider rules, regulations, and policies, including ensuring timely and accurate records, reporting and other documentation. Ensure university's compliance with federal and state compensation laws.
- Assist in identifying and selecting carriers and plans based on quotes, available benefits, and prior experience.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in compensation and benefits administration.
- Responsible for unemployment claim processing.
- Serves as Tuition Exchange liaison for the university.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position interacts frequently with colleagues across the university, co-workers in the Human Resources department, vendors, broker, and the university compensation committee.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in human resources, business or related degree required.
Experience: Three (3) or more years' experience with benefits and compensation required.
Skills: Professional skills such as communication, organization, and relationship building required. Extensive knowledge of benefits and compensation, strong analytical skills, thorough knowledge of related laws such as COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA.
University Mission: Must be able to support and promote the University's Mission.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree, SHRM or similar certification, advanced knowledge of benefit and compensation administration, higher education experience. Advanced Microsoft skills strongly preferred and required within the first six (6) months.
