Director, Direct Entry Master of Science, Nursing (DEMSN) / SHAMP

Under the guidance of the Director of the School of Health and Medical Professions (SHAMP), the Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (DEMSN) Director will hold a full-time, 12-month, tenure track or tenured faculty appointment. This appointment is open to assistant, associate, and full professors. Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the requirements as outlined in the unit bylaws.

The successful applicant will serve as an integral member of the Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing program, providing high-quality instruction in areas central to professional nursing practice and nursing education. This may include foundational nursing knowledge, clinical reasoning, health assessment, pathophysiology, pharmacology, population health, leadership, and evidence-based practice. The faculty member will create inclusive, student-centered learning environments; apply evidence-based and innovative teaching strategies; and support competency-based skill development through simulation, clinical instruction, and experiential learning. In addition, the faculty member will contribute to curriculum development and revision; program and student learning assessment; clinical placement planning; simulation program coordination; preparation for accreditation reviews; and the ongoing enhancement of high-quality, contemporary nursing education aligned with AACN Essentials and national licensure expectations.

The successful applicant will maintain an active and impactful scholarly program grounded in evidence-based inquiry and/or quality improvement research. Areas of emphasis should align with contemporary needs in nursing education, such as curriculum innovation, competency-based assessment, simulation science, clinical learning environments, workforce preparation, or student success and progression. Additional areas of focus may include quality improvement research in clinical or educational settings, intervention assessment, outcomes assessment, student-centered research and educational program evaluation, or research using electronic health records (EHRs), large data biobanks, or national datasets (e.g., All of Us, NHANES). The faculty member is expected to disseminate scholarly work through peer-reviewed publications and presentations, pursue external funding when appropriate, and collaborate with colleagues across SHAMP, the university, and healthcare partners to strengthen the school’s research mission.

The successful applicant will contribute meaningfully to the service and leadership needs of the university, SHAMP, and the DEMSN program. Responsibilities include participation in faculty governance, leading and maintaining program accreditation processes, committee work, student mentoring, and community and professional service that strengthens partnerships and advances the nursing profession. The faculty member is also expected to engage in activities that enhance the visibility and reputation of the institution, SHAMP, and the nursing program at local, regional, and national levels. A demonstrated commitment to collegiality, collaboration, and shared governance is essential, along with a strategic mindset that supports the growth, quality, and long-term success of the nursing program.

The position is based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and will work closely with North Idaho College (NIC), engaging with NIC administration, faculty, and staff to support program operations and collaboration.
