Director, Library and System Administrator
Description
The Director, Library and System Administrator is a full-time, 12-month staff position. This position plays a vital role in managing and facilitating access to electronic resources and technology, ensuring that students, faculty, and staff have efficient and seamless access to a diverse range of digital materials and technology within the Learning Commons. This position requires a deep understanding of electronic databases, online catalog systems, and emerging digital resources and technology. The Director also provides leadership for the library team.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Direct and manage the operations of library services;
- Provide guidance, leadership, and supervision to a diverse team of library staff, ensuring their efficiency, growth, and adherence to standards;
- Develop and implement strategies for the acquisition, evaluation, and maintenance of electronic resources such as e-books, digital journals, databases, and online materials;
- Lead collection development efforts, in collaboration with the library team, faculty, and instructional leadership, to ensure adequacy of the collection to support all TJC programs and teaching sites;
- Evaluate the efficiency, relevance, and usage patterns of electronic resources to inform decisions regarding subscription renewals, new acquisitions, or cancellations based on data analysis and user feedback;
- Develop, refine, and maintain operational protocols, manuals, and training materials, ensuring they reflect current best practices and support a standardized, effective academic library;
- Manage the budget for library services, ensuring prudent fiscal management aligned with the objectives and priorities of the learning commons;
- Manage the procurement, implementation, and integration of electronic resources into the library's systems, ensuring seamless access for users;
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies related to library services, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, copyright laws, and best practices;
- Develop and conduct training sessions, workshops, or tutorials to enhance digital literacy and optimize resource utilization among library users;
- Remain current on emerging technologies and trends in electronic resources, advising on innovative solutions that enhance library services and user experience;
- Collaborate with library and IT teams to integrate new technologies or enhancements into the library's systems for improved accessibility and functionality;
- Ensure compliance with licensing agreements, copyright laws, and intellectual property for all electronic resources;
- Generate comprehensive reports on usage, trends, and effectiveness of electronic resources to support decision-making, future planning, and internal and external reporting requirements;
- Engage in outreach activities to raise awareness and maximize the utilization of library resources within the college community and beyond;

Qualifications
Required Education: Master's Degree in library and information science or equivalent (i.e., MLS).
Required Experience: Two years of experience in an institution of higher education.
Preferred Education: MLIS or MLS from an ALA-accredited school.
Additional Job-Specific Requirements: Familiarity with SirsiDynix Horizon, library databases, and other electronic resources used in academic libraries; Knowledge of licensing and copyright issues related to electronic resources; Ability to learn a variety of new software and hardware used in the library
