The Excellence in Policing and Public Safety Program (EPPS) seeks an Program Director to organize and oversee the Program’s activities and to report on the Program’s activities to law school leadership, the Program’s advisory board, and funders. The EPPS Program Director will oversee the design of a suite of educational offerings to meet the needs of South Carolina Law Enforcement Agencies, with the goal toward expansion nationally and internationally. The Program Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of a process for evaluating the reception and impact of Program offerings. The Program Director will represent the Program to key external audiences such as police leaders, community advocates, state legislators, and national organizations. Paramount among these duties is the fiscal responsibility over the direct appropriations from the General Assembly to establish the Excellence in Policing programs.
Job Duties
- Assist with the continued implementation of the strategic plan, including being primarily responsible for the Program successfully meeting key milestones and deliverables; oversee all programmatic development to include working with the Graduate Programs director and USC Graduate School to successfully implement the Public Safety Executive Leadership masters and certificate programs under the EPPS umbrella. (20%)
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key external stakeholders including, but not limited to, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Council, the South Carolina Criminal Justice Training Academy, and various police agencies (20%)
- Represent the Program to audiences such as police leaders, community advocates, state legislators, and national organizations; serve as the primary liaison between the Advisory Board, Program leadership, and University leadership, including reporting regularly on Program progress to these audiences. Identify, foster, and maintain strategic partnerships and fundraising support to advance Program objectives; and represent the Program in media and other outreach opportunities. (15%)
- Retain and supervise Program’s leadership team; Ensure the team is engaged, receives professional development support and growth opportunities, and is supported through an inclusive and productive work environment. (15%)
- Oversees finances of the EPPS programs to include budgeting and all grant funding and donor funding received by the programs. (15%)
- Assists in reviewing and updating training curriculum for the EPPS program. Vets all curriculum for appropriateness of content and delivery for intended audiences with a primary focus on South Carolina law enforcement leaders and arranges for external validation if needed. May co-teach EPPS courses especially those designed to advance fair and effective public safety leadership and administration (15%)
