Anticipated Pay Range: $70,304 - $72,450

Pay Range Information: Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

We’re looking for a Library Experience Manager to champion user-centered service and keep our operations running smoothly.

At the Hugh and Hazel Darling Law Library at Chapman University’s Fowler School of Law, we empower our community through enhancing the learning and research experience for our students, faculty, and staff. Reporting to the Associate Director for Library Services, the Library Experience Manager administers library functions including patron services, interlibrary loan, reserves, and stacks maintenance. This position requires a strong commitment to service and problem-solving skills. The Library Experience Manager is responsible for insuring consistently high service to library users by establishing, documenting, and applying library policies and procedures; training and supervising Circulation Assistants and student employees; and working with other departments in the Law School and the University on issues relating to security, facilities, and use of the Law Library. This position also maintains the Circulation module of the Integrated Library System (ILS).

Responsibilities

Manage Circulation Department services and functions

  • Open the law library, assist library users at the Circulation Desk, and schedule coverage for Circulation Desk.
  • Collaborate with other library staff to create a pleasant, hospitable environment conducive to study and research for primary patrons.
  • Respond to faculty requests, including locating and delivering library material, processing interlibrary loans and faculty reserves in coordination with Circulation Assistant.
  • Assist patrons with locating resources, using the OPACs, copiers, and microform equipment.
  • Create, document, implement, and administer library policies and procedures for Circulation functions.
  • Administer the circulation module of the Integrated Library System (ILS), including patron records, borrowing rules, and Circulation statistics.
  • Communicate with library administration, other departments in the Law School, and the University regarding security, facilities, and student employment.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare statistical reports for library administration.
  • Collaborate with other library staff on projects.
  • Handle problems and incidents in a responsible manner.

Supervision & Training

  • Supervise Circulation Assistants.
  • Hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate student employees in coordination with Circulation Assistants.
  • Create and maintain Circulation procedure manuals and training material.
  • Apply University student employment policies consistently and accurately, process student personnel paperwork, monitor student hours and budget.

Required Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years supervisory or management experience; academic public services department experience preferred.
  • Strong service orientation and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and management skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment to conceptualize, communicate, and coordinate complex activities and projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse groups at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the University.
  • Commitment to expanding, improving and promoting library services.
  • Demonstrated writing skills to prepare clear, concise, and accurate documentation.
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks when faced with interruptions and fluctuating workload.
  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Desired Qualifications

  • Desired: MLIS / MLS or equivalent advanced degree from an ALA-accredited institution; an equivalent relevant advanced degree; or must be enrolled in an accredited Master’s program.
  • In-depth knowledge of library circulation policies and procedures.
  • Experience with an Integrated Library System and OCLC.
