Basic Function:

Reporting to the Director of the Ronald E. McNair and Student Support Services Program, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for co-developing and implementing program activities and data collection for the McNair Scholars. The incumbent assist and coordinators student's scholarly activities such as lab participation, independent research, summer internships, conference presentations, campus visits, and participates in educational/cultural events. The Program Assistant is responsible for data collection and preparation using data quality processes and will also serve as the co-liaison with other key California Lutheran University's staff offices, such as the Student Support Services (SSS), Educational Effectiveness and Institutional Research (EEIR) and The Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship (OURCS).

The McNair Scholars Program Coordinator is grant funded for 12 months through the Department of Education. The continuation of this position is contingent upon the continued receipt of these funds.

Representative Duties:

The Project Coordinator will:

  • Organize and coordinate day-to-day services, including graduate school preparation workshops and classes, as well as planning and implementation of the Summer Research Internship. E
  • Assist with the recruitment of undergraduate students from low-income, first-generation backgrounds and/or from groups underrepresented in graduate education (African-American, Hispanic/ Latino, Native Hawaiian/ Pacific Islander and Native American/ Alaskan Native) who are interested in pursuing a doctoral degree. E
  • Assist with the development and implementation of activities for, and services to McNair Scholars, and support students in all aspects of the graduate application process. E
  • Assist the Project Director with student portfolios, including action plans, identified needs, measurements of student progress, and documentation of program participation. E
  • Coordinate the individual plans for each McNair Scholar, as well as the academic, financial, and career advising and graduate school admissions preparation. E
  • Arrange the travel for students to attend scholarly conferences and visit graduate schools; accompanying students to conferences; and attending professional development conferences and trainings. E
  • Create the weekly program newsletter and social media presence, including the program website. E
  • Track student participation, updates information of student profiles and outcomes, and provides reports. E
  • Manage report database records of student participation in scholarly activities and other academic student driven sponsored activities; records will be included in quarterly and annual reports to California Lutheran University and the U.S. Department of Education. E
  • Co-develop and maintain communication between the McNair Scholars Program and the University faculty and staff, including disseminating information about the program services to the University through presentations, website, brochures and newsletter in conjunction with the Director. E
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, e.g., assisting with data collection, and maintaining compliance with federal legislation, regulations, and college policies and procedures. E

Minimum Qualifications:

The Project Coordinator will be required to have: an advanced degree (e.g., M.S., M.A.) in student personnel administration, counseling/guidance, or a related discipline; three years' experience in program development and coordination;

Experience working with underrepresented (Black, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian/Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander), low-income, first-generation college students.

Preferred Qualifications:

A familiarity with TRIO programs will be highly preferred.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

Weekends & evenings on occasion

Physical Abilities:

Detect to understand appropriate written correspondence; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer; communicate to exchange information in person, in writing, on the telephone and by email; stationary position for extended periods of time; move or transport light objects; position self to store and/or retrieve files

Working Environment:

Office environment; constant interruptions; occasional contact with dissatisfied individuals; driving to conduct work

Hiring Range $25/ hour
