Application Information

The Department of Statistics and Data Science in the College of AI, Cyber, and Computing at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio) seeks one (1) faculty position for appointment of Open Rank Professor of Instruction to specialize in teaching. This appointment is a full-time fixed-term teaching track faculty and will begin in Spring 2026. The initial appointment will cover the Spring and Fall 2026 semesters with the possibility for renewal.

  • The teaching load for this position includes teaching eight courses per year (4+4).
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics and data analytics, both on campus and online, as assigned. Multiple sections of the same course will be counted separately toward the teaching requirement.
  • Revise and develop course materials and contribute to curriculum design, as assigned.
  • Participate in the course development in statistics and data science at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and address student and program needs, as assigned.
  • Collaborate with faculty on degree program initiatives related to statistics and data science.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in statistics, mathematics, data science, or a related field.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

  • Personal statement outlining their philosophy and plans for teaching and service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience teaching data science at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Proficiency with R, SAS, and Python, and experience using technology to teach statistics and data science courses.
  • Previous teaching experience, preferably at an institution of higher education.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
