About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Payroll Compliance Specialist to join the Payroll team at Swinburne. This is a great opportunity for a specialist who is passionate about governance, enjoys improving systems and processes, and wants to make a meaningful impact.
In this role, you’ll ensure payroll compliance across legislation, enterprise agreements and internal policies, acting as a trusted expert on complex payroll matters. You’ll proactively engage with payroll, shared services, systems teams and key stakeholders, utilising your strong stakeholder management and communication skills to identify compliance risks, strengthen controls, support audits and drive sustainable, long term improvements.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Ensure the accuracy of payroll processing, ensuring all employees are paid correctly and on time.
- Identify and develop process improvements with other P&C Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) as required to achieve and maintain compliance.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws, regulations, company policies and enterprise agreements.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to provide payroll-related data and resolve any audit findings.
- Conduct regular payroll audit checks to verify accuracy and compliance.
- Provide expert guidance where required to P&C, managers and payroll staff on legislative interpretation and compliant payroll practices.
- Respond to escalated payroll enquiries, complex entitlement queries, and exception cases.
- Work with relevant colleagues to ensure payroll system configuration and master data integrity are compliant and up to date.
- Contribute to system enhancements, automation and process improvements to strengthen compliance and reduce risk.
Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
