Job Summary:

The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Pathology (DOP) seeks an experienced academic pediatric pathologist to join our CHCO faculty practice. We employ 120 academic faculty with diverse subspecialty expertise including clinical, anatomic, and subspecialty pathology serving pediatric to adult patients in two large hospital systems, the CHCO and their hospital network and the University of Colorado Health System with flagship hospitals on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The Department is a bridge department, with large programs in research and education (undergraduate and graduate) as well.
The Children's Hospital Colorado is a 632-bed pediatric hospital that is consistently ranked in the top 10 in the US News and World Report. Children's Hospital Colorado is a major teaching site for the University of Colorado School of Medicine, the Department of Pediatrics and pathology. Pathology residents and fellows in Pediatric Pathology, blood banking and transfusion medicine, hematopathology, breast and gyn pathology and molecular genetic pathology are educated, at least in part, by our CHCO based pathology department faculty.
The CHCO Medical Laboratories (anatomic and clinical pathology) occupy 18,000 square-feet of modern laboratory space within the main hospital complex, with close approximation to procedural, medical, and surgical areas. The pathology laboratories are staffed by eighteen pathology faculty, including board-certified subspecialists in pediatric pathology (9), hematopathology (3), neuropathology (1), molecular genetic pathology (6), blood banking and transfusion medicine pathology (3), and clinical chemistry faculty (3) as well as highly trained technical personnel performing over 1.5 million clinical pathology tests as well as 11,000 surgical cases, 500 surgical pathology consultation cases and 50-70 autopsies, as well as > 10,000 molecular genetic tests annually.
Nature of Work
We are looking to recruit another pediatric pathologist to our team with a primary focus on pediatric anatomic pathology. Individuals trained in additional subspecialty areas are also encouraged to apply, especially in informatics, bone and soft tissue pathology, molecular pathology, autopsy pathology, neonatal pathology, cytopathology, renal and/or gastrointestinal pathology, Digital and AI Pathology. Leadership and career development opportunities are available, including a CAP designated role as the Medical Director of Pediatric Anatomic Pathology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surgical pathology services
- Gross and microscopic examination of general pediatric surgical pathology specimens including tumor biopsies and resections; medical liver, renal, cardiac biopsies, endoscopic gastrointestinal biopsies, placentas
- Results reporting using Epic Beaker
- Autopsy coverage during weekdays
- Frozen sections
- Call coverage to include after hours and weekend frozen sections, specimen triage, urgent biopsies, and rare emergency autopsy procedures
- Resident, fellow, and medical student clinical teaching
- Supporting multidisciplinary conferences
- Participation in the CHCO DPLM quality program
- Engage in scholarship, as broadly defined in the matrix of the University of Colorado School of Medicine

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Assistant Professor:
- Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology +/- Clinical Pathology with additional board certification in Pediatric Pathology or Pediatric Pathology board eligible.
- 2-5 years of experience
Associate Professor:
- Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology +/- Clinical Pathology with additional board certification in Pediatric Pathology or Pediatric Pathology board eligible.
- 5+ years of academic pediatric pathology experience, sufficient scholarship and teaching credentials to allow appointment/promotion to the rank of Associate Professor
Professor:
- Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology +/- Clinical Pathology with additional board certification in Pediatric Pathology or Pediatric Pathology board eligible.
- 10+ years of academic pediatric pathology clinical experience, sufficient scholarship and teaching credentials to allow appointment/promotion to the rank of Professor
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 2-3 years' experience as a practicing pediatric pathologist

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range for this position will depend on the candidates' experience and has been established as:
Assistant Professor: $211,300 – $264,925
Associate Professor: $249,406 - $321,876
Professor: $294,674 - $393,750
