Required Qualifications
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in hand by September 1, 2025. Deep knowledge of functional materials and experience in real time synchrotron experiments.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering/Materials Science or a closely related field in hand by September 1, 2025. Expert knowledge of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
Brief Description of Duties
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Anatoly Frenkel in the department of Material Sciences and Engineering at his lab at Stony Brook University. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The incumbent will research "Descriptors of Dynamic Elastic Dipoles in Non-Classical Electrostrictors" and will perform in situ characterization of new ceramic oxides by synchrotron X-Ray methods. The Postdoctoral Associate will develop new methods for measurements, data analysis and modeling for Modulation Excitation Spectroscopy and will travel to US and foreign synchrotrons, if necessary, to use them. The incumbent will participate in multi-PI collaboration for design, synthesis and characterization of electromechanical materials and assist in beam time proposal writing. Must have a deep knowledge of functional materials and experience in real time synchrotron experiments for such studies, such as X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy, which are unique assets for this position.
Essential Duties
- Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of Nanomaterials characterization.
- Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
