The University of Denver Honors program offers a challenging experience for over 300 talented and motivated students drawn from all majors who seek an advanced liberal arts education, lively dialogue with their peers and faculty, and inspiring in-depth work in their majors. The DU Honors Program cultivates student capacity for original academic inquiry and creative exploration. Our students emerge as self-directed learners, encouraged to ask new questions and pursue their curiosities-both within the classroom and beyond.

Position Summary

The Program Coordinator for the University Honors Program will manage Honors recruitment, marketing, and admissions processes, and will be the main point of contact for the Honors first-year experience, including orientation and the Honors residential community. This person will also serve as the Honors advisor for first-year Honors students.

The Program Coordinator for the University Honors Program is a full-time benefitted staff position housed in University Academic Programs and reporting to the Assistant Director of the University Honors Program.

Essential Functions

Recruiting, marketing, and admissions

  • The Program Coordinator will engage with prospective DU students, and maintain an active presence in DU's admissions and yield efforts, including at DU visit days, Fridays@DU, online programs, and other events.
  • The Program Coordinator communicates with prospective students and their families about the program, the application process, and any troubleshooting needs.
  • They will review prospective Honors student applications in collaboration with the Faculty Director and Assistant Director, and will provide technical support for the application process.
  • They will communicate with admitted students throughout the spring and summer.

First-year onboarding, programs, and advising

  • The Program Coordinator is responsible for advising first-year Honors students on program requirements.
  • They will organize quarterly drop-in advising and also meet with students individually as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director, they will audit student progress in the program, conduct outreach about Honors program status, and will be responsible for overall roster management.
  • They will act as a liaison with the Honors residential hall, organizing events and co-curricular experiences to support first year students.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director, they will lead and execute group advising sessions (including orientation) for first-year students.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director and Faculty Director, they will manage the logistics of Honors Summit (HNRS 1000) in the fall quarter and the associated Canvas modules.
  • Student Communications
  • The Program Coordinator will collaborate with the Assistant Director on outreach efforts to students including through weekly newsletters that highlight student events, opportunities, and advising information.
  • They will develop and execute an Honors-specific communications track for incoming students.
  • They will manage the Honors inbox and assist with website maintenance.

Student Employee Supervision

  • The Program Coordinator will be responsible for supervising 1 student employee who assists with student communications, events, and marketing. They will provide regular check-in meetings and supervision.
  • They will collaborate with the Faculty Director and Assistant Director on the student employment process, including posting positions, interviewing, onboarding, and training.

  • Comfort with technology and willingness to learn new systems
  • Ability to engage with diverse audiences
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1-2 years administrative or student leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree
  • 2-4 years of experience working in Higher Education/Student Affairs in a direct student support role

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions often occur, and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.
  • Open to Coordinator pursuing advanced degree at DU and creating moderate flexible schedule to accommodate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In accordance with the University's flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Salary Grade Number: The salary grade for the position is 7.

Hourly Range: The hourly range for the position is $23.50 - $27.08

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
