1. Invitation for Applications and Nomination

Shepherd University, a premier public regional university in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, seeks applications and nominations for an innovative and strategic leader to serve as the Registrar. Applicants or nominees must demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, student success, and collaborative leadership. The expected start date for this position is spring 2026.

2. The Opportunity

Reporting to the associate provost, the registrar plays a critical role in advancing the office’s alignment with the University’s mission and strategic plan. The registrar works closely with faculty, staff, and administrative colleagues across the University to implement strategies, policies, and processes that maintain the highest-level integrity for academic records and impact student success.

Specifically, the registrar is responsible for:

  • Developing and articulating the office of the registrar’s vision in alignment with Shepherd University’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Managing the university’s student academic records in compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies including FERPA, NCAA, and veteran’s affairs.
  • Developing, evaluating, and advancing registration, curriculum management, and other processes as necessary for a modern university with a lens to technology.

5. Primary Responsibilities

The registrar provides strategic leadership and manages all operational aspects of the office of the registrar. The registrar collaboratively leads a dedicated staff in providing high-level services associated with maintaining student academic records, including course registration; class scheduling; and degree auditing to support student success, persistence, retention, and graduation.

The following is a summation of the registrar’s most essential job responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction for and oversee daily operations of the office of the registrar.
  • Direct the maintenance, accuracy, security, and integrity of all student academic records in compliance with institutional policies, FERPA, NCAA, Veteran Affairs, and other regulations.
  • Serve as the institution’s FERPA compliance officer.
  • Supervise course registration, class scheduling, transcript services, and degree auditing.
  • Lead the planning and execution of registrar-related aspects of graduation, commencement activities, and degree conferral processes.
  • Manage the production of the official academic calendar, class schedules, exam schedule, and university catalog in partnership with the Provost’s Office.
  • Ensure and promote the effective use of student information systems and related technology (Ellucian Banner, Degree Works, CRM, Modern Campus).
  • Drive, develop, and implement policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency in registration services.
  • Improve processes and increase technology integration.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Research and other offices to produce accurate enrollment and graduation data for internal planning and external reporting (e.g., IPEDS, accreditation, program review).

6. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university
  • 5 years of progressive responsibility within a Registrar's Office
  • Higher Education experience

7. Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Ellucian Banner, Modern Campus, and Degree Works experience

8. Salary Range and Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 and will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications.
