RESEARCH FELLOW
The Systems Imaging and Bioinformatics Laboratory (SIBL) in the Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics, as well as the Departments of Biostatistics & Biomedical Engineering, University of Michigan is seeking a postdoctoral fellow for bioinformatics problems involving quantum machine learning and multi-omics data integration (e.g.: ATACseq, RNAseq, single cell RNAseq and spatial-omics platforms like CODEX/mIF or 10x Visium). The fellow will work with several research collaborators in the EECS Department, Rogel Cancer Center at the University of Michigan, as well as be responsible for leading collaborations in the longer-term. The project has opportunities for candidates with interests in methodology development as well as applied cancer bioinformatics in a variety of disease sites, including the incorporation of statistical, machine learning & QML ideas.
Multiple collaborative opportunities are available at the University. Our collaborators include clinicians and methodologists at the University, including the Dept. of EECS, Biostatistics, Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS) as well as the Precision Health Initiative. Additional opportunities for collaboration are available with faculty in the Radiation Oncology, Engineering and Statistics departments. Mentoring opportunities (working with undergraduates and graduate students) are also available.
PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, statistics, physics, biomedical engineering, applied mathematics, or related field. Working in team science. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in physical modeling of biological systems, and a strong background in quantum information science. Additional desirable qualities include the ability to effectively work both independently and in a team, good communication skills, and a deep commitment for methodology development & applications in the context of QML for cancer bioinformatics.
Duration: 2-3 years (renewable yearly). Extensions are also allowable, pending satisfactory performance. For questions regarding the position, please email Arvind Rao at ukarvind@umich.edu. Lab website: https://sibl.lab.medicine.umich.edu/
Applications should include a CV, a short research statement and names and email addresses for three references. A GitHub repo link for relevant code would be welcome. Please send materials to ukarvind@umich.edu with Subject "SIBL Bioinformatics Postdoc".
