Job Description Summary
A full-time position is available working with Dr. George T. Kannarkat in the Department of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania. The lab is newly founded and its research program focuses on mechanisms outside the brain that contribute to neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson's disease. Projects in the lab involve contextualizing the role of misfolded proteins found in blood and other peripheral tissues as well as studying how environmental exposures promote the development of neurodegenerative diseases.
Job Description
We are looking for a highly self-motivated person who is excited about doing bench-based mechanistic research alongside clinical research (primarily with human biospecimens or human-derived data). Laboratory responsibilities will include molecular biology (PCR, DNA sequencing, genotyping, immunoblotting, flow cytometry) and cellular biology (microscopy, cell culture). Other responsibilities will include ordering and setting up laboratory supplies/equipment. While prior experience is not required as these techniques can all be taught, candidates with prior laboratory experience are preferred. Candidates will also be expected to present data and attend meetings with other collaborating labs. Candidates should be enthusiastic, willing to learn, well-organized, and interested in building and leading a scientific project.
Hiring range minimum for this position is $50K.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Preferred: prior 'wet' lab or lab management experience.
Position is contingent upon continued funding.
