Research Technician - IDEA
The Research Technician supports the mission of the Institute for Democratic Engagement and Accountability (IDEA) to advance scholarship and practice in deliberative democracy and democratic innovation by conducting research, analyzing data, and coordinating project activities that strengthen citizen engagement and inform policymaking. This position exists to deliver high-quality research and operational support, ensuring that our studies are rigorously designed, effectively implemented, and widely disseminated. Working within a collaborative research team, the Research Technician will review literature; design and administer research instruments such as surveys or semi-structured interviews; collect, clean, and analyze data; and help to prepare reports and publications. Leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence to enhance qualitative research methodologies will also be a key aspect of this role.
This position is for a one-year term appointment to commence during the Autumn 2025 semester.
Minimum Education Required
High school diploma or GED is required.
Additional Education/Experience Desired
Previous study of or experience working in a field of deliberative democracy is strongly preferred. Previous experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning in a qualitative research context is strongly desired.
Required Qualifications
Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy; demonstrated ability to conduct literature reviews and synthesize complex materials; proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and basic statistical software (preferably R); experience using machine learning and artificial intelligence in both data collection and analysis; ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.

The pay range for this job profile is $15.15-$19.79. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
