Reporting to the Director of International Affairs, the Senior Associate Director, OIA Operations is responsible for leading the operations management of our high-volume fast-paced international student/scholar services office.

The portfolio of responsibility includes supervision of two associate directors who each manage respective systems and support wings of service, as well as having primary oversight of our communications, assessment, and budget. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to multi-task in dealing with frequent time-sensitive situations, high-stress client circumstances, and unexpected scenarios.

The Senior Associate Director will have extensive contact with international students, scholars, and family clients, including prospective, current, and alumni. In addition, they will have frequent contact with governmental agencies such as ICE/HSI/SEVP, CBP, USCIS, Department of State, Social Security Administration, and Internal Revenue Service, as well as external non-profit stakeholders.

Examples of Duties

  • The Senior Associate Director for OIA Operations Management supervises the work of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) Associate Director for Systems/Processing and the Associate Director for Support/Outreach.
  • Serve as the lead in the office to manage our services for, and communications to, Pratt Institute's international students and scholar clients, and evaluation and assessment of these offerings.
  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), backing up processing and advising as needed, and monitoring for compliance issues.
  • Have first-line oversight of the department's operating (non-salary) purchasing budget for the office.
  • Represent OIA on institute committees as appropriate to their level and assist with other duties as assigned by the Director as needed.

Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in related field required.

Experience: Six or more years of full-time experience in international student and scholar services, including at least four years supervisory/ staff management experience.

Skills:

  • Strong supervisory/management abilities, excellent verbal interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical adaptability to understand and manage reporting in data systems.
  • Ability to lead with attention to customer service, responsiveness, complexity, and accuracy, and to lead in unexpected scenarios with excellent judgement.
  • Knowledge/familiarity with assessment and financial management/budgeting principles and procedures.
  • Long-term understanding and experience with F and J regulations, policy, practice.

Other: Per federal government regulations for DSO/ARO appointment, this employee must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Supplemental Information

Position is hybrid, typically one remote day per week. Occasional in-person events on weekends or afterhours are required a few times a year (e.g., parent family weekend, move-in reception, admitted student day).
