Salary Range: Up to $76,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

Provides professional-level development, analysis, interpreting and implementing financial concepts for financial planning and review of financial data and systems; Assists with preparing financial reports; Oversees the University's debt, including all payments, schedules, and projections. control of organizational budget. Integrity, objectivity, and confidentiality are essential when dealing with financial and human resource information.

Assists the Senior Director with financial analysis and research. Performs internal financial management reporting and analyses to monitor financial performance and establish forecast models supporting an integrated planning process and performance tracking.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Develops and designs financial models to support budget and planning (i.e. revenue analysis, financial planning and consolidation, project planning, forecasting models, etc.
  2. Prepares financial analysis as requested. Compiles data and completes research to support the analysis as needed. Extracts information from the PeopleSoft system as needed.
  3. Works with Financial Affairs leadership to ensure financial data is available to support departmental management decisions optimally.
  4. Works closely with the Financial Affairs leadership on special assignments and performs specialized financial analyses as needed. May manage special projects.
  5. Reviews ongoing financial transactions to ensure appropriate funding and coding by coordinating review and corrections if needed and promptly communicating any budget issues to departments.
  6. Uses available technology to streamline and automate work processes. Analyzes business operations and identifies improvements to ensure efficient and accurate financial tracking and reporting.
  7. Prepares university financial reporting as assigned, including participation in the year-end and month-end closing processes.
  8. Interprets information to identify change opportunities and makes recommendations to management about business process improvement to increase work efficiencies and effectiveness that will contribute to achieving the business goals and objectives.
  9. Complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies & procedures employing sound financial and business practices and appropriate internal controls.
  10. Supports department team members in special projects and other initiatives.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related discipline from an accredited institution. A Master's degree or CPA may be substituted for two years of required experience.
  • Five years experience in accounting or financial analysis experience in a university, public, or corporate setting to include: Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning application.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Experience with fund accounting.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft FMS Suite, especially the General Ledger and Commitment Control modules.
  • Experience with various issues unique to higher education, specifically related to financial matters.

Knowledge Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated independent decision-making and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced skills in Excel.
  • Knowledge of the principles and theories of finance, accounting or other related fields and disciplines as demonstrated from relevant positions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high quality work.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments of various durations.
  • Ability to use query and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work under strict time constraints.
  • Familiarity with higher education debt process and functions.

Working Conditions

Office environment. Requires use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. After-hours and weekend work is required on an occasional basis.

Physical Demands:

Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary; if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.

This position primarily works remotely in Texas but may work on campus on an infrequent basis (approximately four days or less per month). When an employee is required to work on campus, travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
