The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research provides leadership and coordination for college-wide planning, research, and outcomes reporting processes. The office supports effective planning and decision-making in support of institutional effectiveness and student learning and success, working in collaboration with all departments and programs.
The primary responsibility of the Special Projects Manager I position will be to design and implement a research study on impacts of culturally relevant pedagogy supported by active learning in STEM courses. Course revisions were designed and implemented under a Title III HSI STEM grant project. The study will use a quasi-experimental design to create a matched sample of students in course sections not receiving intervention with classes whose instructors participated in course redesign.
This is a grant-funded position of limited duration. Current funding is expected to end September 30, 2026 at the conclusion of the current Title III HSI STEM grant.
Work hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. The selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.
Desired Qualifications
- Doctorate or Master's degree, OR Bachelor's degree plus three years of work experience, in psychology, sociology, or related field, or statistics/applied research.
- Experience with designing and implementing research methods, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods analyses.
- Knowledge of salient issues and current methodologies in post-secondary educational research including program/grant evaluation and student success metrics for transfer, completion, and equity.
- Skills and experience with computer operation and software and statistical packages to manage data, perform statistical analyses, visualize and present findings (e.g., Hyperion, SPSS, SAS, R, STATA, Tableau, PowerBI, SQL, Microsoft Office, SurveyMonkey, Surveygizmo, Qualtrics).
- Experience applying techniques of project planning and time management.
- Excellent report writing, oral communication, and presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to reason logically and solve problems creatively.
- Experience working as part of a collaborative team.
