Sr. Visitor Experience Representative Data Specialist

The Princeton University Art Museum welcomes applications for the position of Senior Visitor Experience Representative (Senior VER), Data Specialist, to join the Visitor Experience Team (VET) with a focus on visitor data and evaluations.

This visitor and data-focused position will support a dynamic exhibition program and an array of education initiatives that continue to grow in energy and impact each year, particularly in the lead up to the opening of the new Art Museum building in Fall 2025. Senior VERs are responsible for promoting an inclusive and engaging experience for all visitors, modeling behavior for members of the VET, and supporting a variety of mission-driven projects within the Art Museum. The VET currently supports the daily operations of Art@Bainbridge, the Museum's downtown gallery, and will expand its visitor support roles in the new Museum building.

The preferred candidate will be a confident leader and enthusiastic colleague who can seamlessly navigate between routine and daily operations-related tasks and longer-term projects with time-sensitive deadlines, while providing high-level visitor support and embracing a flexible mindset to adapt to the needs of the moment. The Senior VER Data Specialist will support the Museum's visitor data and evaluation initiatives, including tracking attendance, developing tools to assess visitor experiences and satisfaction, analyzing the data, and producing reports to effectively communicate key findings. The Senior VER must be detail-oriented, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be adept at using a variety of software platforms. As a member of the Education Team, the Senior VER will lead by example and promote an atmosphere of teamwork, innovation, integrity, inclusiveness, and respect.

This is an 80% time, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position.

With a collecting history that extends back to 1755, the Princeton University Art Museum is one of the leading university art museums in the country, with collections that have grown to include more than 117,000 works of art ranging from ancient to contemporary art and spanning the globe. Committed to advancing Princeton's teaching and research missions, the Art Museum also serves as a gateway to the University for visitors worldwide. As the Museum prepares for a dramatically reconceived new building scheduled to open in Fall 2025, the Art Museum presents three exhibitions in its downtown venue Art@Bainbridge. When the new building opens, the Art Museum will open with 32 galleries and initiate its new exhibitions program with seven annual exhibitions onsite and on tour.

Responsibilities

  • Visitor Data and Evaluations (50%): Assist the Manager of Visitor Experience in implementing a visitor evaluation framework that meets the needs of Museum departments and supports strategic planning. Develop and conduct visitor evaluations, considering a variety of methods. Lead training discussions related to evaluation goals and best practices. Utilize the Museum's existing software systems to record daily attendance and collaborate across departments to ensure consistency in attendance tracking procedures. Assist in the analysis and reporting of visitor attendance and evaluations for a variety of purposes. Assess attendance and evaluation practices and adjust as needed to reflect project-specific goals.
  • Visitor Support (25%): Welcome visitors, engage them in conversation, and provide tailored support to visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Provide information about exhibitions, gallery spaces, activities, group programs, events, membership, new building updates, and the Art Museum in general. Provide clear messaging to visitors regarding any relevant safety guidelines, visitor policies, and University policies.
  • Daily Operations, Routine Tasks (15%): Open and close Art@Bainbridge, the Museum's downtown gallery, including turning on/off the security alarm, setting up any AV equipment, and preparing visitor areas. Prepare the Information Desk and other visitor amenities areas in the new Museum building, ensuring the areas are ready to support visitors. Oversee the daily operations of the public spaces and visitor amenities in Art@Bainbridge and the new building, including: tracking attendance, tracking inventory of supplies, enforcing visitor policies, and communicating effectively with visitors, students, faculty, and staff. Assist with promotion, setup, and support of various programs hosted at any of the Museum's locations. Work closely with the team to ensure all shifts are covered, including coverage during staff breaks and as back-up staffing for specific days identified in advance.
  • Training (10%): Attend and participate in mandatory team training sessions that occur throughout the year related to specific exhibitions and relevant topics. Participate in planning and training for the visitor amenity operations in the new building.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with the public, serving as front-line staff, including the ability to work with a range of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to providing current, accurate, and helpful information.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • A collaborative team player who is flexible and able to adapt to meet shifting demands and priorities.
  • Willingness to engage in continuous learning about current exhibitions and events.
  • Strong computer skills, comfortable using a variety of software, with the confidence and ability to learn new systems.
  • Flexible work schedule required which will include hours on Saturdays, Sundays, and some evenings. Approximately 29 hours per week.

Preferred Requirements

  • A background in evaluation, data analysis, education, or museum studies is preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, and Zoom is preferred.
  • Experience working with Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, or other data collection platform is a plus.
  • Experience working with EMS or other reservations or project management software is a plus.
  • Fluency in more than one language is a plus.
