Job Summary
The Student Media Lab Monitor oversees the daily operations of the School of Arts and Letter¿s various campus media labs, ensuring an efficient, creative, and collaborative space for students working on multimedia projects. This role involves supervising student workers, assisting users with media production tools and software, maintaining equipment, and upholding lab policies and procedures. The Media Lab Supervisor also supports technical troubleshooting and fosters a positive learning environment for media-related work.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with audio/video editing, graphic design, animation, and other media software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro)
- Maintain and troubleshoot media lab equipment, including cameras, microphones, and editing stations
- Monitor lab activity to ensure safe and respectful use of shared resources
- Provide technical support for printing, scanning, or rendering projects
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support class projects and lab-based assignments
- Report equipment issues, supply needs, and incidents to lab management
- Be cordial to all students, staff, faculty and visitors entering the office
- May take on a special project based on student skills and interests to include but is not limited to social media, the Mac Lab, course assistance (i.e., assisting with set-up for film/digital lab courses), digital media management and/or creation, and student outreach.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- Currently enrolled student at Middle Georgia State University for at least 6 credit hours with some or all classes being on the Cochran campus.
- Must be able to work a set schedule Monday ¿ Friday.
- Knowledge of computer programs such as Adobe, Microsoft Office including Word and Excel, social media platforms, Canva, etc.
- Skills: critical and creative thinking, oral and written communication, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Enrolled as a student at MGA in Media, Communication, Graphic Design, Digital Art, Film or related field
- Basic experience with media production tools and editing software
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and assist peers
- Familiarity with digital workflows and file management best practices
