Student Care Coordinator, Student Success and Wellbeing

The Student Care Coordinator, Retention Specialist, plays a crucial role in fostering a holistic environment that supports student success and persistence. This position is responsible for identifying at-risk students, developing intervention strategies, and coordinating retention initiatives to foster academic achievement, spiritual growth, and overall student engagement. The Student Care Coordinator will coordinate with other Student Care staff to identify barriers students experience and connect students to available resources. The Student Care Coordinator, Retention Specialist, collaborates with faculty, staff, and student support services to ensure students receive the guidance and resources needed to thrive and graduate. A significant focus of this role is providing specialized support for at-risk populations. The Coordinator will serve as a primary bridge between Student Care and the Office of Intercultural Development and Commuter Student Services to ensure these populations experience a high sense of belonging and academic persistence.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required; preferred experience with data collection and analysis; preferred experience in higher education

Job-Related Skills Required:

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to quickly synthesize information from a variety of sources to make informed recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other departments on campus to serve students
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivation
  • Basic understanding of data analytics
  • Ability to work effectively with students from differing backgrounds
  • An understanding of FERPA, HIPAA, and other relevant laws and regulations, and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and the ability to build trust-based relationships.
  • Understanding the unique challenges faced by commuter students, including engagement barriers and limited access to resources
  • Effectively build rapport with students through displayed empathy, active listening, and cultural humility skills

Job-Related Skills Preferred:

  • Basic knowledge of case management theories and practices
  • Knowledge of student affairs/student life context within a University and the ability to work with faculty members and senior-level administrators relatively autonomously
  • Expertise in data collection and analysis

Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement retention strategies to enhance student success, with a focus on academic, spiritual, and social engagement
  • Identify at-risk students through academic performance data, early alert systems, and faculty/staff referrals
  • Utilize predictive analytics to identify at-risk students and implement proactive outreach.
  • Research and recommend best practices in student retention, persistence, and success.
  • Provide individualized support, mentoring, and well-being coaching for students facing challenges
  • Develop targeted interventions for students from underrepresented backgrounds, first-generation students, transfer students, and graduate programs
  • Monitor and track student retention metrics and analyze data to assess program effectiveness
  • Collaborate with other Student Care staff in planning events to engage students in wellbeing practices that will impact student belonging and retention
  • Participate in strategic planning efforts related to student success and institutional effectiveness.
  • Represent the Office of Student Life on various University-wide committees
  • Assess and track caseloads, trends, and response rates related to retention intervention strategies
  • Prepare ad hoc reports, data requests, and annual reports for internal stakeholders
  • Partner with the Office of Intercultural Development to design and implement culturally responsive retention strategies and interventions
  • Collaborate with Commuter Student Services to identify barriers to engagement for non-residential students and develop support protocols that align with the university's commuter engagement goals
  • Utilize data and predictive analytics (in partnership with Institutional Research) to monitor enrollment and retention metrics for commuters, and adjust outreach strategies accordingly
