Introduction
The position is administered by the office of the Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs, at Kapi‘olani Community College. The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs is charged with administrative control for planning and administering all programs and services within the Student Affairs units. The specific functions include outreach and admissions, financial aid, graduation and transcript evaluations, credit and non-credit registration, student engagement, student counseling, student grievances, and related learning support services. The role entails providing essential support to Student Success at Kapi‘olani Community College within the Student Affairs units.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitates the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Life (OSL) and the Kamokila Student Center
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates student employees to ensure effective performance
- Updates and maintains relevant web pages and social media accounts
- Schedules rooms to meet the needs of clubs, organizations, and other student engagement groups
- Coordinates OSL services such as student identification, employee identification, issuing parking permits, U-PASS distribution, and lost and found
- Coordinates all aspects of researching, purchasing, and managing significant OSL equipment and software purchases
- Creates meaningful work experiences for student employees to assist in their professional development
- Recommends, manages, and executes programs related to the Office of Student Life, serving as the main contact for vendors and departments
- Develops and implements comprehensive leadership development opportunities
- Collaborates with stakeholders to create impactful programs that enhance students' leadership skills
- Incorporates Kapi‘olani Community College’s vision, values, and mission into the OSL program
- Coordinates and oversees the Student Boards and ensures they have advisors
- Oversees budgets for the respective Boards and ensures efficient resource distribution
- Ensures timely submission of budgets for OSL and Chartered Student Organizations
- Ensures accountability for designated student fee accounts by tracking expenses
- Develops and implements an assessment cycle that measures Student Learning Outcomes and Service Area Outcomes
- Collects and analyzes data to evaluate the effectiveness of student engagement programs
- Develops a plan for OSL and Student Boards to participate in Kapi‘olani Community College’s Strategic Plan
- Creates and submits the OSL Annual Report
- Facilitates the development of student life activities programs
- Fosters collaboration with various groups including RIOs and CSOs
- Develops policies and procedures for advisors and members of RIOs
- Administers student activities, organizations, and leadership education programs
- Serves as a key member of Kapi‘olani Community College’s Commencement Committee
- Assists with the development and maintenance of a student communication plan and event calendar
- Collaborates with other units in the creation and operation of a Welcome Center/One Stop
- Creates opportunities for staff and faculty to participate in student life
- Serves as a resource for RIO advisors
- Works a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays; travel may be required
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Social Work, Human Resources, Marketing, Communications, Arts & Sciences, or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for student program and leadership coordination; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Considerable working knowledge of principles and practices in student activities/affairs. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws. Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems, interpret and present information, establish effective working relationships, operate a personal computer, and for supervisory work, lead subordinates and manage priorities.
Desirable Qualifications
- At least one (1) year of professional experience managing budgets from student fees
- Two (2) or more years of professional experience working in student life at a community college or university
- At least one (1) year of professional experience managing and directing student employees
- At least one (1) year of professional experience planning college campus events
- Two (2) or more years of professional experience in workforce development, mentoring, or leadership development
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professional relationships and support student organizations
- Evidence of commitment to Kapi‘olani Community College’s vision
