JOB PURPOSE:
Unit: Student and Academic Services Position type: 1-year fixed-term
Stanford University has an immediate opening for a full-time Web Manager within the User Experience & Design Strategy (UXDS) unit of Student and Academic Services. Student and Academic Services (SAS) has embarked on an ambitious multi-year roadmap to overhaul and improve systems, policies, and practices across the student and academic services ecosystem.
This one-year, fixed-term, hybrid (part on-campus and part remote) or fully remote position will join the UXDS team to provide support across SAS operations and initiatives and deliver a consistent standard of web management. The Web Manager will coordinate the planning, maintenance, and accessibility, as well as the design and build of Stanford-owned and generated website content and content-related services in the SAS website and web application portfolio. This will include partnering closely with internal SAS clients, distributed stakeholders, and campus partners to ensure the layout, positioning, navigation, and look and feel of content is consistent across the organization, designing and building leading-edge, high-quality, attractive, and highly usable web properties that work well on all devices and meet business needs, and serving as the subject matter expert on design solutions and usability best practices.

In this role, you will:
Web Content Management & Oversight
- Manage 6 different websites in our SAS portfolio (Student Services, Inside Student Services, Graduate Admissions, Bechtel International Center, Office of Global Scholarships, and My Academic Path) with thousands of pages of combined content that needs to be updated regularly.
- Manage and oversee other web applications that need regular content and feature release nurturing, including the Axess portal for students, instructors, and SSOs, our degree audit gateway website, our Bulletin website, and more.
- Regularly meet with SAS colleagues to ensure content across websites is current and up-to-date and changing regularly for a fresh user experience. Ensure content, including images, is fresh and ever-changing for the homepage, top landing pages, and in news and event sections across all web properties.
User Experience Optimization
- Collaborate with colleagues on the User Experience & Product Design team, as well as partners in Stanford Web Services, to validate and test the UX of various web interfaces.
- Engage students and staff in regular feedback sessions for continuous user experience improvement.
Brand Management & Accessibility Compliance
- Uphold the university’s brand and accessibility standards across all web properties, ensuring proper use of word marks, colors, and fonts as well as on-brand images.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on design solutions and usability best practices.
Web Management & Training
- Provide regular training for SAS colleagues on our web content management system to empower them to update their own web content, and learn about new features and functionality as they roll out.
- Create on-demand help resources for web editors in SAS.
Usability Testing & Optimization
- Using a variety of available online usability tools, such as surveys, heat maps, and more, in combination with live usability testing, continuously validate and improve the usability of our web properties to ensure an optimal user experience.
Customer Service & Quality Control
- Respond to tickets from end users about our website content and user experience and quickly fix any issues that are identified.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Clear understanding of web standards and usability methods.
- Knowledge of modern design concepts and solutions and usability best practices for all web devices.
- Knowledge of user profiling, usability testing, and quality assurance practices.
- Knowledge of web analytics tools and related analyses and reporting.
- Proficiency with browser and device differences and idiosyncrasies.
- Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
- Familiarity with web publishing tools.
- Working knowledge of HTML and related website development technologies and software.
- Knowledge of user experience and information architecture.
- General knowledge of office applications.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
- Proficiency in Drupal software for building websites
- Prior Stanford website experience focused on content and visual design
Working Conditions:
- This position is open to remote or hybrid work (2 days required on-site).
- Able to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
The expected pay range for this position is $37.02 - $45.67 per hour for remote positions.
The expected pay range for this position is $43.75 - $54.33 per hour for hybrid positions.
