Assistant/Associate Professor of Athletic Training
Job Description
The Athletic Training Program at the University of Indianapolis invites applications for a full-time (10-month), tenure-track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor beginning August 2026. Excellent teaching, scholarship leading to dissemination, and service to the Athletic Training Program, the College of Health Sciences, and the University are expected. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for teaching and mentoring, with a demonstrated ability to engage students in the classroom using interactive student-centered approaches. Candidates should be able to foster an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse perspectives and encourages critical thinking.
Review of applications will begin immediately, with priority given to those applications submitted by February 1, 2026. Candidates will be asked to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a list of three references, and an unofficial transcript.
REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience
- Preferred college/university teaching experience with experience in a CAATE Graduate professional Athletic Training program
- Preferred experience as a clinician or preceptor
- Evidence of an ongoing or developing scholarly agenda
Education
- A terminal academic doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution (e.g. PhD, EdD, DAT, DHSc) in athletic training or a related field (e.g. kinesiology, exercise science, curriculum and instruction), preferred. Doctoral candidates (ABD) may be considered.
Licenses/Certifications/Credentials
- Certified Athletic Trainer in good standing with the Board of Certification and eligible for Indiana licensure, required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teach graduate courses in the Master of Science in Athletic Training program and prepare students for clinical practice.
- Potential course responsibilities (adjusted for area of expertise): therapeutic exercise, psychosocial interventions, emergency procedures, applied kinesiology, clinical integration, and evidence-based methods.
- Service to the University, college, and department
- Follow the guidance and direction of supervisor(s).
- Demonstrate respectful, ethical, responsible behavior.
- Abide by the University’s policies, procedures, and rules.
- Perform employee responsibilities as detailed in employee handbooks and policies.
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Other duties, including special projects, as required or assigned.
