Position Summary
The Department of Kinesiology at the University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Exercise Physiology to begin on August 1, 2026. We are seeking the highest quality scholar in the area of Exercise Physiology with a research agenda focused on the physiological implications of physical activity/inactivity, aging, chronic disease, and/or disability. The ideal candidate’s research program will build upon current strengths within the department along with centers and initiatives across the university, including the Obesity Research Initiative, the Cognitive Aging Research and Education (CARE) Center, the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, Precision One Health, Owens Institute for Behavioral Research, and the new College of Medicine.
Responsibilities:
- Establish an independent, nationally recognized research program based on impactful publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
- Pursue external funding from federal agencies, foundations, or other relevant sources to support a sustained research program
- Provide effective undergraduate and graduate teaching in Exercise Science
- Provide effective student mentoring, including in support of theses and dissertations
- Provide service activities that benefit the Kinesiology department, the University, the profession, and the public at large
This position is contingent on the continued availability of funding.

Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Exercise Physiology or an appropriate related field
Additional Requirements
- Evidence of strong potential to secure external funding
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
- At least 2 years of either postdoctoral research or academic faculty experience
- Evidence of university teaching and mentoring
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Demonstrated ability to publish in high-quality scientific journals
- History of obtaining funding to support research
- Preference will be given to candidates with a focus on physical activity/inactivity in the context of cardiometabolic, neurovascular, and/or cerebrovascular health.
