Lecturer in Physiology
Position Summary
The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia is expanding our teaching faculty to meet the needs of our growing educational programs. We seek an energetic and innovative educator to teach upper-level undergraduate students in our new Biomedical Physiology program. We have a broad group of highly motivated students who commonly focus on gaining admission to graduate training programs, particularly in human healthcare. You will teach the equivalent of up to three 3-credit hour courses per academic term, participate in the development of new course materials, and supervise teaching assistants. There may also be opportunities to participate in the administration of our undergraduate program and to contribute to the teaching missions of our graduate and veterinary medicine program. The position will interact with students and other CVM faculty and staff. Decisions can impact student learning and the program. High level of autonomy.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DVM, MD/DO, DVM, DDS / DMD, PharmD, OD) for their respective field.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must have a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DVM, MD/DO, DVM, DDS / DMD, PharmD, OD) for their respective field or the minimum of a Masters degree for fields such as nurse practitioner, physician assistant, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or others.
- Candidates must have excellent communication skills.
- A minimum of one year of experience teaching physiology at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional school level is required.
- Candidates without a terminal degree required for the rank of Lecturer must document exceptional accomplishments in a discipline area related to the position’s responsibilities and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
- Evidence of teaching excellence using active learning methods in both small and large group settings is highly desireable.
- Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability to teach multiple areas of physiology and in physiology teaching laboratories. Being able to teach pathophysiology or pharmacology is also desirable.
- For candidates in fields requiring the minimum of a Masters degree, preference will be given to candidates with a doctoral degree appropriate to their field.
