Position Overview

The Department of Physics at The Ohio State University announces an opening for a tenure-track faculty position for an experimental physicist working in high energy collider physics. The appointment will be effective in Autumn 2026 at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek outstanding applicants with a demonstrated record of excellence in high energy collider physics to join, and complement, the existing CMS effort at OSU, but who will also initiate new synergistic high energy experimental research directions. The Ohio State University has a strong and impactful record of innovative research in experimental high energy physics in both detector development and data analysis. The current faculty working in this area at OSU play leading roles in current and future accelerator-based high energy experiments including CMS, ATLAS, milliQan, SUBMET, FORMOSA at the FPF, NOvA, and DUNE.

Performance Objectives

Applicants should demonstrate the potential to be a recognized leader in experimental high energy physics, who will develop a productive, well-funded, and internationally prominent research program. Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • foster cross-disciplinary research with sustained impact;
  • develop and maintain an extramurally funded research program;
  • have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring; and
  • contribute to the teaching (graduate and undergraduate) and service missions of the University.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required: Candidates must hold a PhD in Physics or a closely related field. Candidates should have an established research record in experimental high energy physics.

Desired: We are seeking candidates who, in addition to building their independent research program, will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a welcoming intellectual community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values. Applicants should demonstrate the potential to be a recognized leader in the field of collider based experimental high energy physics, who will develop a productive, well-funded, and internationally prominent research program.

How to Apply

To be considered, please submit your application electronically via Workday. A complete application consists of the following required elements: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, separate research and teaching statements, and three letters of reference. The search committee will begin reviewing applications on October 15, 2025 and the final deadline for application submission is November 1, 2025. Inquiries may be directed to Prof. Christopher S.
