Job Summary
The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach supports the overall mission of the Athletic Department by assisting the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance in providing a comprehensive strength and conditioning program focused on the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes. This individual will design and implement year-round training programs for assigned sports, working closely with sport coaches to ensure alignment with competitive goals and NCAA compliance. Team assignments will be determined based on departmental needs.
Job Duties
Primary Responsibilities:
- Program Design & Implementation:
- Develop and implement comprehensive, year-round strength and conditioning programs (including strength, speed, agility, plyometric, flexibility, mobility, and recovery) for assigned sports.
- Ensure all training protocols are orthopedically safe, scientifically sound, and tailored to the specific demands of each sport and individual athlete.
- Sport Coach Collaboration:
- Collaborate with sport head coaches to align physical performance programming with team strategies and goals.
- Provide regular updates and feedback on athlete progress and team performance metrics.
- Session Scheduling & Oversight:
- Assist the Assistant AD for Sports Performance in coordinating and scheduling team and individual strength and conditioning sessions.
- Ensure efficient and organized use of weight room and training spaces.
- Performance Tracking & Data Management:
- Maintain accurate records for individual and team performance, including but not limited to: body weight, body composition, and strength testing metrics.
- Conduct pre-season and post-season performance evaluations and testing.
- Injury Management & Collaboration:
- Communicate regularly with the Sports Medicine Staff regarding injury reports.
- Modify training programs to accommodate athletes returning from injury and progress them safely back to full participation.
- Football Program Support:
- Serve as a primary or assistant strength coach for the football program (potential travel required).
- Contribute to year-round football training and performance initiatives.
- Internship Program Oversight:
- Assist in the supervision and development of the Sports Performance Internship Program.
- Mentor and evaluate interns to ensure a high-quality learning experience.
Requested Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required.
- Current certification through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) (SCCC) or NSCA (CSCS) is required. A CPR, AED, and First Aid certification is also required.
- A minimum of 1 year of collegiate strength and conditioning coaching experience is required.
- A valid driving license is required.
- A Master’s Degree preferred
- Division 1 experience preferred
- Strong understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and potential team travel.
- A strong foundation in exercise science, sports performance, and program design.
- Understanding anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition, and be able to apply this knowledge to develop and implement effective training programs for student-athletes.
