Faculty - Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor-Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering at Utah Valley University invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in mechanical engineering to begin as soon as January 2026.
The mechanical engineering faculty member develops and teaches undergraduate courses, such as pre-engineering courses, seminar courses, core mechanical engineering courses, laboratory courses, open-ended design courses, and electives in their respective specialty area. The faculty member engages in scholarly activities that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, the faculty member provides service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department offers ABET-accredited bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering and in civil engineering, as well as associate's degrees in pre-engineering.
The department is particularly interested in applicants with experience in the areas of mechatronics/robotics, advanced materials, and aerospace engineering applications.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods.
- Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials and evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
- Engages in scholarly activities including applied research and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
- Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.
Qualifications:
- Graduation with a Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Evidence of potential for effective teaching and scholarship in line with the mission of a large teaching university.
- Ability and willingness to teach a variety of undergraduate courses.
Preferred Qualifications: Established teaching experience, industry experience, demonstrated history of successful research involving undergraduate students, and involvement in applied research projects.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of mechanical engineering and curricula requirements; skills in organization, communication, and interpersonal relations; abilities to engage students, manage tasks, and work with diverse groups.
