Job Duties:
The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a lecturer in the area of Health and Physical Education beginning August 2026.
This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in Health, Physical Education, and Adapted PE (HPEA) major and associated post-baccalaureate program, advising HPEA students and service to the university, community, and profession. Teaching expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and must have a minimum of 5 years of K-12 teaching experience in Physical and/or Health Education.
Job Details:
The successful candidate will be able to teach courses such as Introduction to HPEA, Motor Development, Implementation of Content in Standards Based Health, and other PE and Health Content courses as part of the HPEA major and post-baccalaureate program. The successful candidate may have additional responsibilities, such as serving as an advisor and coordinator for the HPEA program. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.
Responsibilities:
Full-Time teaching responsibilities include teaching courses within the HPEA major, and the supervision of student teachers and/or pre-student teachers in their clinical experiences. In addition, this position may have other duties related to the HPEA major and post-baccalaureate program, such as course planning, transcript review, recruitment and retention of students, advising, and working with others in the college to ensure licensing requirements are met. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations and the discipline as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest. Instructors at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of formats, including in-person, online and/or in a hybrid format. All students, faculty, and staff are expected to ensure their materials are digitally accessible and utilize standard technology platforms supported by UW-Whitewater. Examples include, but are not limited to, Navigate, Canvas, and Microsoft Office applications – including Outlook, which is essential for university email communications and scheduling.
Department Information:
The Department of Kinesiology prepares teachers and professionals in physical and health education, and the exercise sciences. The department houses two undergraduate major programs including a BSE in Health, Physical Education, and Adapted PE Teacher Education, BS in Human Performance, several minors and certificate programs, and the MS in Applied Kinesiology graduate program. The College of Education and Professional Studies works closely with the region’s K-12 districts to support developing teachers and their pupils, and is the largest teacher preparation program in the State in terms of licenses endorsed. The faculty and academic staff in the Kinesiology Department are dedicated to providing high quality education for students committed to professional careers in the exercise sciences, health and physical education, health promotion, sport and recreation management, strength and conditioning, and coaching, among other health and human performance careers.
CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT:

Key Job Responsibilities:
- Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
- Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction

Compensation:
Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within the range of $56,000 - $60,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field is required. Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction licensure or the equivalent in Health and/or Physical Education and a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience is required.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students, commitment to working with inclusive populations and serving as an active member of the university community.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred qualifications include experience working with undergraduate students, whether as a course instructor or as a cooperating teacher.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.
