About the Department
The Computer Science Department is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and offers programs leading to the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Data Science. There are currently over 2,800 undergraduate majors and over 400 graduate students enrolled in Computer Science, which makes it the largest academic department at Georgia State University. In 2025, the department has launched a Bachelor of Information Technology ( BIT ), and a Gateway to Computer Science ( GCS ) Graduate Certificate.
Position Description
To support the Bachelor of Information Technology ( BIT ), the department invites candidates with teaching expertise and interest in Information Technology, specifically in the areas of Network Administration, System Administration, Database Administration, IT Security, IT Project Management, and IT Infrastructure Design to apply. The expected teaching load is 24 credit hours per academic year, which may include laboratory instructions. Other duties include IT program coordination and service to the Department, College, University, or profession, student success, and outreach activities.

Required Education
Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field at the time of appointment. Applicants with a Master’s degree in the field of Computing with substantial industry experience in Information Technology will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Preferred qualifications include experience teaching undergraduate courses in person or online and coordinating laboratory sessions and student activities.

Ability to teach at the undergraduate level.
