Job Description:

SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking a full-time Outreach Advisor in the TRIO Student Support Services program. Reporting to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services, the Outreach Advisor provides educational, career, and personal advisement, outreach, and referral services to eligible students participating in SUNY Schenectady's TRIO program. The Outreach Advisor works collaboratively with TRIO staff to promote student success through academic support, skills development, and engagement activities designed to assist first-generation, income-eligible students, and students with disabilities. The Outreach Advisor position is a 12-month, grant-funded appointment.

Information about TRIO: TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program of the U.S. Department of Education. TRIO SSS empowers participants to explore and achieve their academic, career, financial, and personal goals through individualized advisement, advocacy, and skill-building. The program's mission is to increase persistence, graduation, and transfer rates among eligible students

Responsibilities:

  • Provide educational, career, and personal advisement, mentoring, and support services to TRIO participants.
  • Conduct recruitment, outreach, and intake for eligible students consistent with federal TRIO program guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain student case records and database information in accordance with TRIO and institutional reporting requirements.
  • Assist students with academic planning, study skills, and technology navigation (including online course components, Microsoft Office, email, and web resources).
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, workshops, and outreach events to promote TRIO participation and student engagement.
  • Manage and expand TRIO's communication and social media presence, including newsletters and digital materials.
  • Provide referral services to appropriate campus and community resources (academic support, financial literacy, career services, counseling, etc.).
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and coordinating TRIO enrichment activities (career and educational workshops, recognition events, campus visits, etc.).
  • Collaborate with other departments, faculty, and community partners to support student success.
  • Participate in community service activities related to TRIO's mission and college access initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of TRIO Student Support Services.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree
  • Demonstrated excellence in written, oral, and interpersonal communication
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and social media platforms

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with First-generation and a broad range of student populations
  • Experience designing materials for recruitment and education
  • Experience with online Learning Management Systems
  • Experience working on grant-funded projects

Special Information:

  • This position is subject to renewal based upon continued availability of grant funding.
  • This role may occasionally require evening or weekend hours; however, flexible scheduling is available to support work-life balance during those times
  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Offers of employment will be conditional based on the successful completion of a background check and verification of official college transcripts.
