Position Summary

Individual will provide greenhouse assistance to include potting, fertilizing, inoculating and watering plants. Individual will assist in keeping greenhouse space neat, orderly and weed free. Individual will provide assistance with basic field and laboratory research as requested to include collecting plant samples, inoculating plant samples, setting up field studies including labeling and placing flags, stakes and markers. Individual will assist with basic lab protocols including molecular virology as requested and will be responsible for basic lab maintenance and chores including washing glassware, preparing simple solutions, preparing media, autoclaving supplies and waste, taking trash to dumpster, etc.to keep laboratory space neat, orderly and clean.
This is a temporary position and the applicant will be expected to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer term and limited to 20 hours per week during fall and spring semesters per UGA guidelines permitting funding available and the needs of the program.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Greenhouse – care for plants in greenhouse. Plant, weed, fertilize, water

• Assist with field research- collect plant samples, label, flag, stake

• Assist with basic lab protocols- Nucleic acid extraction, and other virus related research
  Percentage of time: 30
• Assist with basic lab maintenance and chores – wash glassware, autoclave supplies, prepare basic solutions and media, take away trash, etc.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

High school diploma
Undergraduates with interest/majors in plant biology, agriculture, crop and soil science
Prior lab experience is preferred

Physical Demands

Standing, lifting, driving, and enduring outside elements for extended periods of time.
