Postdoc Critical University Heritages
Job Summary: The position is for a postdoctoral researcher on critical university heritage within the EU-HORIZON-funded project "Colonial Legacies of Universities: Materialities and New Collaborations" (COLUMN). It involves developing interventions addressing the coloniality of physical anthropology collections and botanic gardens.
Responsibilities: Contribute to two co-curated heritage interventions: an exhibit on the colonial history of physical anthropology in the Dutch Indies and a heritage education intervention for the Botanic Gardens. Conduct literature surveys on curatorial practices, develop new curatorial approaches, and incorporate critical heritage and museology perspectives for public engagement.
Qualifications and Requirements: A PhD in Museology, Heritage Studies, History, or a related discipline; experience with public engagement and curation; affinity with arts-based research; ambition to contribute to academic publications; experience or affinity with collaboration with Indonesian and/or Surinamese peers; fluency in English with excellent writing and presentation skills. Knowledge of Dutch, Bahasa Indonesia, or Sranantongo is preferred but not required.
What the Employer Offers: A temporary position for 12 months with possible extension to 30 months; working week of 30.4-32 hours; gross monthly salary between €4,537 and €6,209; 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus; pension scheme; partially paid parental leave; and flexible employment terms under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
