Macquarie University is hiring for an experienced Senior Analyst (Finance & Power BI) to join our team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of enabling evidence based financial decision-making across the University, translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights that inform strategy at the highest levels.
This is an opportunity to combine deep technical expertise in analytics platforms particularly Power BI with a strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and planning processes. You'll work closely with executive and senior leaders, finance stakeholders, and data engineering teams to design and deliver sophisticated analytics solutions that drive efficiency, transparency, and continuous improvement in how the University manages its financial resources.

About the Role
As a Senior Analyst, you will contribute strong functional and technical expertise in data analytics with a dedicated focus on finance-related data, reporting, and insights. Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance monitoring across the University.
- Partner with finance stakeholders and senior leadership to identify analytical needs, evaluate emerging technologies and trends, and recommend data-driven approaches to financial decision-making.
- Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of finance analytics solutions including requirements analysis, design, build, testing, release management, and ongoing maintenance while ensuring compliance with university standards and processes.
- Lead continuous improvement of relevant processes, standards, and procedures related to financial analytics, and ensure comprehensive support documentation is developed and maintained.
- Contribute to the development of analytics capability within the University through knowledge sharing, coaching, and mentoring.
- Contribute to project work as a subject matter expert, working with project managers to scope, size, and deliver outcomes within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

About You (Selection Criteria)
- Tertiary qualifications in Data Analytics, Data Science, Finance, Business, Statistics, or a related field or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Subject matter expertise in analytics, with experience spanning data engineering, business intelligence, descriptive analytics, statistical analysis, and predictive modelling, ideally applied within a finance or financial planning context.
- Proficient in Power BI and SQL with a strong working knowledge of tools and platforms such as Alteryx, Python, R, Snowflake, and AWS.
- Experience performing complex analysis across relational and non-relational datasets to support evidence-based financial decision-making, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting.
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyse and interpret requirements and information from diverse financial and operational sources.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to balance competing demands, effectively prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines both individually and as part of a team.
