About the opportunity
The Social Media Senior Specialist leads the planning, delivery and optimisation of the University of Sydney’s paid and organic social media activity. As 2IC to the Head of Social Media and Content, the role is responsible for delivering platform-first campaigns that engage priority audiences, enhance brand affinity and build trust across the University’s community.
The position manages direct report(s) and plays a key role in developing and executing best practice channel content strategies, optimising paid campaigns across diverse audiences and is able to translate analytics and data into clear, actionable strategic direction.
Working in close partnership with Marketing and Communications teams, business units and external agencies, the role delivers integrated social campaigns while overseeing always on community management, issues monitoring and proactive storytelling across the University’s social channels.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Lead and manage organic and paid social media campaigns across owned channels, ensuring platform-first, audience-led delivery
- Provide expert advice on social media strategy, emerging trends and best practice to internal stakeholders
- Manage community moderation, issues monitoring and risk mitigation across central social channels
- Optimise paid social performance across markets, using insights and analytics to inform ongoing strategy
- Partner with agencies and internal teams to deliver integrated, high-quality social campaigns on time and within budget
- Mentor and support team members while fostering best practice across the wider social media community
About you
- Extensive experience managing large-scale organic and paid social media campaigns across multiple platforms
- Strong expertise in platforms such as Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Bluseky, and Reddit, with experience in analytics and paid optimisation tools
- Demonstrated ability to translate performance data into clear insights and strategic recommendations
- Proven stakeholder management skills, with confidence advising senior leaders and collaborating across teams
- Experience leading or mentoring others and contributing to a high-performance team culture
- A strategic, proactive mindset with strong written communication skills and attention to detail
