Position Details
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Life and Community Standards Engagement will be responsible for assisting the Assistant Vice President to plan, implement and evaluate the programs and services managed by the Department, and to recommend the development and implementation of new programs and services that support the College's strategic plan. The Student Life Director will assist the Assistant Vice President in promoting a desire for excellence, creativity, leadership, cooperation/teamwork and accountability.
In addition to the Overview duties, the Student Life Director will:
- Provide strategic and operational oversight of all aspects of Student Life, Engagement, and Leadership (SLEL) while providing direct supervision of staff.
- Regularly assess the impact of the department’s efforts on student engagement, development, and success.
- Develop policies and procedures for the recognition and support of student activity programs.
- Manage orientation and leadership training to the student governments.
- Oversee for the hiring, training, and evaluations of Orientation Leaders and Student Ambassadors.
- Serve as an advisor to the two student government leaders as well as the Student Media Board.
- Coordinate major campus events such as New Student Orientation and Freshman Convocation.
- Oversight of student elections and the Student Election Review Committee (SERC).
- Serve as a responsible fiscal agent of SLEL while managing department and student groups/organizations budgets, allocating resources appropriately, and spending Student Fee Revenue appropriately.
- Cultivate leadership development opportunities for students across all campuses.
- Develop, implement, and direct student life programming to support various student populations (i.e., Military-Affiliated Students, LGBTQ Students, minority or historically underserved populations, etc.).
- Serve as the lead regarding Student Conduct matters and provide support and guidance the Director of Conduct and Community Standards in conducting disciplinary investigations, interview complainants, respondents and any available witnesses.
- In collaboration with the Director of Community Standards, determine an appropriate resolution and consult with the AVP while ensuring that all cases are resolved in compliance with college and University procedures and policies.
- Oversee all aspects of the Urban Mentoring and Achievement Network (UMAAN) to ensure the program is meeting the CUNY Black Male Initiative’s objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and eight years related experience required.

- Assists senior management in providing leadership, developing policy, conducting strategic planning, and representing student affairs in various professional activities
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the portfolio of student services in supporting divisional and College-wide goals; oversees data collection, tracking, and reporting systems
- Manages fiscal and human resources; may oversee grant management activities for selected programs
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $136,546 - $155,388. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
