Position Summary

The Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity works proactively to address systemic inequities through professional learning, community building, advocacy, policy recommendations, and organizational structures while facilitating an integrated vision and shared responsibility for prioritizing and advancing institutional goals. The Assistant Coordinator supports innovative efforts to provide an integrated approach to identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and practices directed toward improving student outreach and yield, academic success, leadership and professional development, inclusion and retention, and enrichment of the overall student experience, particularly for undocumented students.

The Student Services Professional IA classification is considered a trainee level position. The Assistant Coordinator will be under the direct supervision of the Director and will be provided adequate training to support for Undocumented Resource Center (URC) with advising, meeting with students on a one on one basis, creating and implementing outreach strategies to target and increase advise engagement, and provide academic retention resources for students through materials and workshops. The Assistant Coordinator will provide assistance with day-to-day operations of URC and ensure effective and efficient processes including, but not limited to space management, student scheduling, reservations, and front desk coverage as well as financial documentation and guest speaker processes. The Assistant Coordinator supports innovative efforts to provide an integrated approach to identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and practices directed toward improving student outreach and yield, academic success, leadership and professional development, inclusion and retention, and enrichment of the overall student experience, particularly for undocumented students. This position will promote the Undocumented Resource Center and raise awareness of undocumented student excellence and student concerns through supporting events/programs, written materials and through representation on campus-wide committees.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits-eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2023 with the possibility of appointment to a Student Services Professional IB at the end of the 12 month training period. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on-campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, Liberal Studies, or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse populations of the undocumented community
  • Competency in cross-cultural communication
  • Possesses leadership qualities such as proactiveness, vision, being a self-starter, positivity, and creativity
  • Demonstrated success working on teams and supporting colleagues on collaborative initiatives
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advance notice

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,513 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,513 - $4,298 per month.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward, a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
