Assistant Project Manager for Democracy Programs, Mansfield Center
The Mansfield Center invites applications for an Assistant Project Manager for Democracy Programs to work closely with the Democracy Programs team under the direct supervision of the Director of the Civic Engagement to execute and promote the work of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center. While grounded in public higher education's role in preparing the next generation to be informed and engaged in a democracy, this position is essential to general civic learning and democratic engagement efforts. The Assistant Project Manager is essential to animating this work.
- Collaborate with the Program Officer to develop and implement communication strategies that highlight democracy programs across the website, social media, newsletters, and other platforms
- Create and manage promotional content, attend events, and support outreach efforts to engage diverse audiences and expand program visibility
- Conduct research and explore innovative engagement methods to build partnerships, attract attention at the state and national levels, and support the Mansfield Center's mission
- Support and promote democracy programs in alignment with the Center's mission, strategic goals, and UM's Priorities for Action
- Coordinate outreach events and presentations in schools, higher education institutions, and communities in collaboration with the program officer
- Manage technology tools, databases, and marketing materials to support programming and maintain up-to-date participant and alumni records
- Collaborate with the Mansfield Center team and provide participant support, including accommodations and urgent issues beyond regular hours
- Co-supervise student employees, interns, and volunteers as program needs dictate
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (political science, communications, history, education, etc.)
- Exceptional writing skills under tight deadlines
- Knowledge of crosscutting political developments and trends as they relate to democracy and civic engagement
- Effective listener and strong communicator (written and verbal)
- High degree of organization and initiative
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Use of social media and other communication platforms
- Experience balancing multiple assignments and internal clients
- Sound project management and supervisory skills
- Proven ability to succeed in a cross-cultural environment, including performing on a team with individuals from different backgrounds, cultures, and abilities
- Must be able to be successful in both a traditional office setting and also in dynamic field situations, such as during program implementation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of experience in democracy-related programs
- Experience working with high-level stakeholders in government and democracy efforts
