Brief Job Overview/Summary

The Associate Dean of Students reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Advocacy, Belonging, and Campus Standards & Dean of Students and serves as a member of the Vice President for Student Affairs’ Leadership Council, supporting the University's commitment to Inclusive Student Success. The Associate Dean of Students is a key member of the Advocacy, Belonging, and Campus Standards strategic area and is a primary point of contact for students, staff, faculty, families, and other stakeholders.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Principal advisor to the Assistant Vice President for Advocacy, Belonging and Campus Standards & Dean of Students, and representative of the Advocacy, Belonging, and Campus Standards strategic area on student support, conduct, care, inclusion, emergency, and case management related matters. Serve as the initial point of contact for complex and elevated issues and concerns, and walk-ins to the Office of the Dean of Students.
  • Provide support, advocacy, and empowerment to students in crisis through direct supervision of Stockton Cares and the Office of Student Conduct. Operates with a high level of integrity in all matters and ensures that confidentiality and respect are core values within the Care and Conduct operation.
  • Supervise case management for incidents reported through Stockton Cares and the Office of Student Conduct: review all submitted incident reports and create a collaborative plan of action for student support; triage urgent student concerns; initiate wellness checks to be completed by Residential Life and Student University Police Department; and gather collateral information relating to concerns from students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide oversight and thought leadership to the Stockton Cares Team and Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). Review incoming high-level concerns, alongside Cares and Conduct, to provide direct leadership to the administration, outreach, and referral support service offerings to students, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Manage the Student Well-Being and Safety Review (WBSR) Procedure for review as needed by the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students. Lead cross-functional WBSR meetings. Collaborate with campus partners to guide students and their families/guardians through the return to campus process following hospitalization or other major life events. Make proactive and data-driven recommendations to the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students, closely monitoring trends in student conduct, outreach, behavioral, and well-being reports.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President for Student Health & Wellness, Executive Director of Residential Life, Director of Student Development, and Executive Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation, to ensure continuity in student behavior and conduct procedures and advise on critical needs related to student health and safety.
  • Partner with the Title IX Coordinator/Director of EEO to ensure timely review of incidents and proactive case follow-up. Assist with hearings and collaborative case management as needed.
  • Assist with the management of student basic needs resources through Stockton Cares, including campus Food Pantries, Food Voucher Program, Emergency Loans, and Student Relief Fund.
  • Educate the campus on sensitive and complex topics. Serve as a member of the Bias Prevention Education & Review Team and the Demonstration Action Response Team (DART).
  • Create annual reports and assessments as requested for the Office of the Dean of Students; lead implementation and analysis of student satisfaction/learning data; stay current on federal and state regulations, and other relevant and applicable laws/guidance and compliance regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison to other institutional resources such as the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program, Learning Access Program (LAP), Financial Aid, Stockton University Police Department, and Academic Affairs to support students in crisis.
  • Provide leadership to ensure premier student service delivery and collaboration among Galloway and Atlantic City Student Affairs Operations, partnering with the Director of Residential Education and the Atlantic City Campus Operations Team. Serve as the divisional lead on Atlantic City Student Affairs matters.
  • Lead and coordinate large-scale, institution-wide initiatives that support student success and engagement.
  • Serve on on-call rotation, providing leadership and intervention for critical incident response.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students and/or Vice President for Student Affairs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic objectives, motivate, and develop staff effectively.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with campus stakeholders about coordinated strategies for students of concern.
  • Solid understanding of student conduct administration, crisis management and non-clinical case management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Masters degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Social Work, or an appropriately related field.
  • Previous leadership experience working with college students in conduct, case management, residential life, or a related operational area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned Doctorate degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Social Work, or an appropriately related field.
  • Previous experience with student threat assessment and critical incident response coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing strategies to support equitable student support services.
  • Evidence of understanding of FERPA, HIPAA, Title IX, Clery Act, and trends in legal liability.
