Job Description

The Department of Health, Recreation, and Kinesiology in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services is seeking a full-time instructor in Therapeutic Recreation (F0317) at the rank of Clinical Educator (non-tenure track) or Assistant Professor (tenure-track). The position begins in August 2025, but a start date can be negotiated for January 2026.

The Therapeutic Recreation program offers a broad and rigorous academic curriculum that prepares students for post-graduate studies as well as excelling as practitioners in the field. The program has been accredited for 40 years and maintains a high academic standard and program reputation in the discipline of Therapeutic Recreation.

The successful candidate must have the ability to teach undergraduate courses, which may include teaching online. In addition to the primary responsibility of innovative undergraduate teaching, faculty are also expected to supervise clinical experiences, advise and mentor students, and participate in scholarship and service at the department and university level. In the letter of application, candidates are asked to comment on how they see themselves contributing to the current and future focus of the Therapeutic Recreation program. Attention will go to the candidates who are willing to collaborate with other faculty, demonstrate the enthusiasm for the field, and have a desire to serve the local community in providing recreation therapy partnerships.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University’s campus.

Requirements

  • As Clinical Educator, earned master's degree in Recreational Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation or related field.
  • As Assistant Professor, a terminal degree in Recreational Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation or related field. ABD will be considered with appointment at the rank of Instructor.
  • Current CTRS certification
  • Evidence of experience in the profession of Recreation Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation
  • Evidence of being able to teach to NCTRC and COAPRT competencies
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and vision of Longwood University and the College of Education, Health, and Human Services.
  • A demonstrated ability and commitment to working with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the university mission is preferred.

Additional Information

This position is a full-time, instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
