Job Summary

The Multimedia Producer is a dynamic visual storyteller responsible for creating and producing media and digital content for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). This role will bring FAS research and initiatives, its people and their stories to life through photography and video that will be featured across FAS platforms, including a new FAS storytelling platform (expected early 2026), the FAS website, and on social media. Reporting to the Senior Director of Editorial and Content in FAS Communications, this position requires a creative professional skilled at conceiving and framing visual content as well as shooting, editing, and related technical elements of production. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who can collaborate with faculty, students, and administrative leadership to create compelling content that captures the vibrant research and teaching life in the FAS. The Multimedia Producer will work with a team of writers, content producers, and communications experts to document research and teaching, and campus life. The role will also provide support for FAS leadership communications (social media video, leadership messages, event photography).

Job-Specific Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, photograph and/or film, and edit and produce engaging content, including research, scholarship, and teaching, and administrative announcements and priorities. Plan logistics for photography/ filming and related editing.
  • Collaborate with FAS stakeholders to integrate photo and video in proactive communications campaigns.
  • Scout and reserve locations. Research, source, and film supplemental audio and video (b-roll) content, as needed.
  • Actively communicate about the status and deadlines of projects; schedule shoots; coordinate permits; anticipate opportunities and issues.
  • Oversee publication of content, including video uploads, captioning, and creation of engaging cover images, thumbnails, titles, and descriptions.

Working Conditions

This position will be based on our campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Based on the nature of this position, during the academic year work will occur primarily on-campus. Opportunity for hybrid work will align with University academic year breaks (i.e. winter and summer break). This position will involve some availability in early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting equipment, navigating multiple campus buildings and convening spaces.
  • Walking moderate distances between buildings.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in digital and multi-media communications
  • BA/BS degree

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite with expertise in Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop. Familiarity with Photo Mechanic, Adobe Rush, After Effects is helpful, as is OpusClips or similar platform for social media.
  • Experience with editorial photography and filming, including composition, lighting, photo processing, data management systems, metadata, and post-production digital imaging in a Mac-based computer environment. Develop and maintain organized file structures, asset libraries, and archiving systems to ensure efficient retrieval, backup and long-term preservation. Implement best practices for digital asset management, including file naming conventions and metadata tagging.
  • Evaluate and maintain multimedia production equipment and software to ensure access to current, reliable tools with a long operational lifespan. Experience with licensing rights for images, footage, and music. Research and recommend technology upgrades to support evolving production standards.
  • Experience shooting and editing video for social media.
  • Ability to create visual aesthetic consistent with documentary style commonly used at Harvard. Strong eye for composition, contrast, and color, and the ability to balance creativity with the FAS’s historic sensibility.
  • Experience working in media or higher education preferred.
  • Robust organizational skills, ability to juggle multiple assignments at once; exceptional interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional diplomacy in photo direction and guidance to high-profile subjects, including academic and administrative leaders.
  • Openness to innovative photo techniques and experimentation. Dedication to inclusive best practices.
  • Ability to work under pressure on a high-performing team in a fast-moving, high-volume environment. Ability to be a self-starter who can work independently, as well as within a team.
  • Passion for telling stories through the narrative lens, and to articulate an approach from both content and visual standpoints.
  • Interest in AI and emerging tools for photo and video production.

  • Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week
  • Compensation Range/Rate: New hires can anticipate a salary somewhere in the lower end of the position grade range. Starting salary will take into consideration experience and education.

Work Format Details

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
