SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Performing Arts Aide (Technical Production) supports a vibrant season of theatrical, dance, and music events. Ideal applicants will be able to demonstrate proficiency in at least two to three areas of technical production and a strong desire to expand their skills across all facets of live performance technology.

Working closely with the college's production team, these roles will ensure the smooth and safe execution of campus performances and events while maintaining high standards of technical precision, artistic integrity, and operational safety.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Participate in production meetings and planning sessions when scheduled.
  • Assist with load-ins, technical rehearsals, performances, and load-outs.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot technical systems, including lighting, audio, video, rigging, and automation equipment.
  • Support set construction, prop fabrication, and stage preparation.
  • Collaborate with production staff, designers, and directors to achieve artistic goals.
  • Provide support for student learning and technical mentorship when applicable.
  • Uphold safety standards, follow established procedures, and comply with college policies.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on production equipment.
  • Operate equipment from ladders, lifts, or at height when required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Candidates must possess demonstrated knowledge in at least two to three of the following technical production areas:

Primary Areas of Expertise:

  • Theatrical lighting systems (ETC Ion, Apex consoles, DMX, sACN, moving lights)
  • Rigging and stage automation (counterweight fly systems, CM Lodestar, Creative Connors).
  • Scenic carpentry and set construction (reading designer drawings, shop tools).
  • Prop design and fabrication (materials, safety, creative construction techniques).
  • Video systems and LED technology (ROE, Brompton, Pixera, video networking).

Secondary Areas (Preferred):

  • Digital audio systems (Allen & Heath, Midas, Q-SYS, Dante, Shure wireless).
  • Live video capture and streaming (Blackmagic, Panasonic, QLab, streaming protocols).
  • Network infrastructure for production systems (switches, routers, show control).
  • Entertainment power systems (3-phase power, temporary distribution, safety protocols).

Skills and Abilities To:

  • Work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented production environment.
  • Operate a variety of technical equipment with precision and safety.
  • Troubleshoot and repair live event technologies under pressure.
  • Interpret technical drawings, system diagrams, and cue sheets.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, artists, and student crew members.
  • Adapt to changing production needs and schedules.
  • Lift and transport up to 50 lbs and work at heights safely.
  • Operate ladders, aerial lifts, and other access equipment.
  • Maintain professionalism in an educational performing arts setting.
  • Report to work on a regular and consistent basis, as scheduled, to the assigned job.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience in at least two to three of the listed technical production areas.
  • Interest in developing skills across all areas of live event production.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working in professional or educational performing arts environments.
  • Familiarity with production practices in a college or academic setting.

Work is performed in theatrical, concert, and outdoor event environments. Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods. Exposure to heights, confined spaces, loud environments, and theatrical effects (e.g., haze, strobe lights). Use of hand and power tools, ladders, and elevated work platforms. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights safely. Evening, weekend, and occasional holiday hours required based on production schedules.
