Police Lieutenant

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Division of Finance and Administrative Affairs is seeking a Police Lieutenant for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Police Department.
This position supervises police sergeants and officers, providing leadership in planning, directing, and monitoring law enforcement, investigations, and field operations. Responsibilities include maintaining a responsive supervisory team aligned with departmental and university policies, liaising with other university departments, coordinating operational activities, applying disciplinary actions, recommending promotions and training, and supervising major incidents.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Identifies, develops, and facilitates unit staff training opportunities
- Directs unit operations and ensures compliance with laws and regulations
- Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, promoting, and managing performance of at least 2.0 FTE employees
- Engages in problem solving, threat assessment, and conflict resolution for issues like citizen complaints, disasters, or critical incidents
- Serves as a leadership representative and main point of contact with law enforcement agencies and other groups
- Develops and implements operating policies and procedures
- Schedules resources for protection of life, property, and peace; provides emergency aid
Compensation:
$57.10 per hour
Required Qualifications:
- Seven or more years of full-time law enforcement experience
- Three or more years of full-time experience as a police supervisor (sergeant or above)
- Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver License or equivalent
- Be free of any felony or domestic abuse convictions
- No criminal convictions within the past five years
- No convictions for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in the past five years
- Current Wisconsin Law Enforcement Certification or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working as a police officer or supervisor in a higher education environment
- Experience with Clery, Title IX, and FERPA
- Experience in a community policing model
- Experience as a field training officer
- Advanced leadership training
- Holds a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
