Professorship for Comparative and Empirical Cultural Studies

Professorship for Comparative and Empirical Cultural Studies

The Faculty of Languages, Literature, and Cultures invites applications for a Professorship for Comparative and Empirical Cultural Studies as a professorship for life at grade W 3 to be appointed as soon as possible.

The future post holder (f/m/d) should broadly represent Comparative and Empirical Cultural Studies / European Ethnology / Cultural Anthropology in research and teaching. Experience in contemporary, critical, regionally specific and trans-regionally compatible research as well as in historical cultural analysis is required, as is a focus on area studies and memory studies.

Experience in the competitive acquisition of third-party funded projects and a willingness to engage in collaborative research are desirable. The professorship is a member of the Department for Interdisciplinary and Multiscalar Area Studies (DIMAS). As part of the supervision of students on Bachelor's, Master's and teacher training courses, research-oriented teaching geared towards internationalization, innovative teaching concepts and a willingness to collaborate across faculty boundaries are required. Involvement in international research networks and participation in academic self-administration is expected.

Prerequisites for taking up the position are, in addition to the general conditions from public sector employment law: a completed university degree, pedagogic suitability, and particular aptitude for academic work, generally shown by a doctoral degree, as well as additional academic achievements, such as a Habilitation or an equivalent research record. Scientific research experience gained outside of a university environment, or while employed as a Junior Professor, will also be taken into consideration and may be considered equivalent to a formal academic qualification.

The University of Regensburg is particularly committed to reconciling family and working life (for more information, see http://www.uni-regensburg.de/familienservice). To fulfill the equality directive and increase the number of female professors, we explicitly encourage applications from qualified women.

In case of essentially similar suitability, applicants with severe disabilities will be preferentially selected.

The prerequisites for appointment under civil servant law are based on the provisions of the Bavarian Public Service Code (BayBG) and the Bavarian University Staff Act (BayHIG).

Applications containing the normal documents (resume, certificates, list of publications with up to five publications) should be submitted, exclusively electronically (pdf-format, one file) by September 22, 2025 to the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Literature, and Cultures of the University of Regensburg, fakultaet.slk@ur.de.
