General Statement of Duties:
The Department of Nursing seeks applicants for a Nursing Lab Support Technician beginning in the fall of 2025.
The Nursing Lab Support Technician is a key member of the skills and simulation team, responsible for the technical aspects of simulation-based healthcare training and education. They ensure the smooth and effective operation of simulation and training equipment, software, and facilities, providing technical support and expertise to faculty, staff, and learners.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential:
Equipment Setup and Maintenance:
- Set up and take down patient simulators, task trainers, and other skills training equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot simulation equipment, including hardware and software.
- Perform routine maintenance checks and repairs.
- Ensure equipment is clean, functional, and in good working order.
- Provide training to faculty and staff on the use of simulation equipment and software.
- Assist in recruitment activities, i.e. Accepted Student’s Day and Open Houses (may require occasional evening/weekend hours)
- Actively participate in simulation experiences including, but not limited to, operating as voice of the patient or portraying a standardized patient/family member
- Implement new technology recommended by Nursing Department
Scenario Programming and Management:
- Program and manage simulation scenarios using simulation software.
- Together with faculty, create and modify scenarios to meet specific learning objectives.
- Ensure scenarios are accurate, realistic, and engaging.
- Research and evaluate new simulation and learning technologies.
Technical Support:
- Provide technical support to faculty, staff, and learners during simulation and other learning activities.
- Troubleshoot technical issues that arise.
- Assist with the use of audiovisual equipment for recording and reviewing simulations.
Inventory Management:
- Manage and maintain inventory of simulation and skills equipment and supplies.
- Order and stock supplies as needed
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inventory.
- Document simulation activities and outcomes.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other simulation center personnel.
- Communicate effectively with learners and provide technical support.
- Participate in department meetings and contribute to ongoing program development.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments, sensitive issues, and student performance.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft applications
- Experience in assessing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware, software, and equipment in an emergent manner
- Ability to quickly learn new technology
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with healthcare simulation
- Associate’s degree in a related field
- Familiarity with medical terminology and basic medical concepts.
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS)

Salary:
Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
