Senior Director of Student Financial Accounts and Operations

Summary:
Under the direction of the Controller, the Senior Director of Student Financial Accounts and Operations is responsible for the direction and management of revenues, as well as the overall supervision and monitoring of student financial transactions, cash receipts, data collection, and other duties as assigned. The selected candidate is responsible for all student revenue financial reporting, compliance with all Title IV cash management and disbursement requirements, the return of Title IV calculations and compliance with applicable regulations. Experience in a higher education setting or with NACUBO guidelines is preferred. A knowledge of fund accounting is required.
Examples of Work:
- Directs the preparation of cash receipts journals and daily receipts of deposits.
- Has overall responsibility for the management, reporting, and updating of all student financial accounts for payments received and payable.
- Reviews and monitors all return of Title IV calculations.
- Reviews and monitors Title IV cash management and disbursements.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly student revenue financial results.
- Analyze financial results with institutional data to ensure that revenue is properly classified.
- Directs the updating and reconciliation of all institutional aid accounts.
- Administers and interprets applicable federal, state, and/or university regulations in coordinating with other unit managers in the university in the resolution of student billing or account status.
- Supervises the unit staff for both the billing and receipt area of the Bursar office. Directs the work operations and develops performance standards, reviews and makes performance evaluations, provides guidance and counsel to staff and approves various personnel actions required within the section supervised including promotions, hiring, and disciplinary action in accordance with university policies and State regulation.
- Consults with the Controller and other university officials as appropriate to resolve the most unusual problems or policy concerns evolving from within the sections of the program.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of detailed correspondence.
- Serves or represents the Controller on committees as required.
- Directs the establishment of essential records and files.

- Ability to acquire wide knowledge of the State agencies, local governments and private organizations that have a working relationship with the university and/or program.
- Ability to manage a university program or unit, including setting goals, planning and implementing work programs and developing policies and procedures.
- Ability to evaluate program or unit performance and develop alternative methods to improve performance and meet established objectives.
- Ability to develop and administer procedures to ensure appropriate confidentiality of program records and activities.
- Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff including developing work operations and performance standards making performance evaluations and approving personnel actions for the unit.
- Ability to establish cooperative working relationships and coordinate programs with other offices or organizations that impact on or relate to the work of the program or unit.
- Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with supervisors and staff.
- Ability to develop, administer and monitor the program or unit budget.
- Ability to develop and recommend unit policies.
- Ability to develop long and short range plans and goals for the unit.
- Ability to prepare and/or direct the preparation of clear reports, and studies that include findings and recommendations.
- Ability to prepare clear and detailed correspondence.
- Ability to speak in public.
- Ability to represent the university at conferences, seminars or meetings.
- Ability to organize and administer conferences, seminars or meetings.
- Ability to supervise and/or maintain essential records and files.
Requirements:
Education: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration supplemented by a Master's Degree in a field related to the position or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority.
Experience: Five years professional experience as an administrator in education, higher education or other field that is directly related to the functions of the position to be filled or equivalence as determined by the appointing authority.
Note: Applicants possessing a CPA may substitute for one of the four years of experience.
