The School of Science (SSCI) teaches and conducts research in Biomedical Sciences including Biochemistry, Molecular Biophysics, Microbiology and Cell and Molecular Biology, all disciplines of Chemistry including Atmospheric, Medicinal and Environmental Chemistry, as well as Conservation Biology, Earth Surface Processes, Ecology, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Science, Earth systems, Marine Biology and Spatial Sciences.
About the role
We are seeking a Technical Officer to provide high quality support for undergraduate teaching, helping ensure laboratories, facilities, and equipment are well maintained and ready for use at the UOW Liverpool Campus.
About you
You’ll have completed tertiary study in a relevant discipline such as Science or Medical Science, or bring an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in bacterial culture and management is essential, along with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of microscopes and well developed microscopy skills.
You’ll also have experience with molecular bioscience techniques, particularly within a biochemistry context, including buffer preparation, gel electrophoresis, and enzyme handling. Demonstrated experience using scientific equipment commonly used in molecular bioscience and chemistry teaching, such as UV Vis spectrophotometers, water baths, heating blocks, vortexes, centrifuges, and plate reader is required.
Strong organisational and administrative skills, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot issues and prioritise competing tasks are essential for this role.
